Flameworked Glass Beadmaking

Learn glass beadmaking from one of the finest instructors in the field.

Kim will teach you how to manipulate molten glass over a torch flame to create your own unique beads. An overview of safety and equipment will be followed by instruction on a variety of bead shapes including, round, cylindrical, oval, tabular and bi-cone.

Learn to make stringer, twists, latticino and floral canes. Special attention will be given to surface decoration; feathering, application of dots, floral forms, precious metal leaf and foil and clear casing.

The workshop will balance demonstration with work time and lot’s of personal instruction. All equipment necessary will be provided during class time.

Special Techniques in Glass Beadmaking

Designed for those wishing to further their journey into glass beadmaking.

Learn how to make delicate multi layered riverstone beads, floral embellished beads, intricate aquarium beads, fanciful fish beads and shapely vessel beads.

Kim will demonstrate the techniques necessary to create unique decorative canes, apply controlled surface embellishment including representational floral forms and fancy feathering. Learn how to create inclusions, fume with gold and silver, perfect shaping, and master flawless casing.

Kim will share her secrets for creating beautiful floral, cable, ribbon, latticino and internal twist canes. Learn how Kim expands the palate, to create the perfect shades of violet, goldenrod and olive.

Experiment with a variety of materials, Thompson enamel powders, reduction frit, fine silver wire, copper, silver, gold, moon gold, palladium, and dichroic glass.

The class will balance demonstrations with work time and lots of personal instruction. Students will work at their own pace, but should be familiar with, and comfortable working on a propane/oxygen torch.

Flowers, Branches and Vines, Oh My!

Kim Osibin was one of the first contemporary beadmakers to create representational floral forms on glass beads. She developed many of the techniques currently in use and taught many of the beadmakers working in the genre. In this two-day workshop, Kim will share her secrets for making intricate floral beads.

Kim will teach you how to make the glass canes necessary to create flowers, vines and branches. The class will focus on different types of cased cane including; striped, ribbed and ribbon. Learn how to blend colors to create your own palette. Create dozens of different cane combinations for making tulips, Sunflowers, Gerber daisies, grapevines, wisteria, hollyhocks, pansies, long stem roses, violets, stargazer lilies and more.

The emphasis of this class is on surface decoration. Kim will demonstrate at least eight different floral beads as well as give tips on how to make many others. Learn the techniques necessary for successful control of cane application in order to master delicate surface embellishment. Kim will bring her vast collection of flower books for reference and inspiration.

Students should be intermediate to advanced level, comfortable working on a propane/oxygen mix torch, and have good working control of their glass.
